In the days ahead, the residents of Haiti will be trying to recover from the impacts of Hurricane Matthew. It is expected that food, water and medical supplies will be in short demand.

Haitian officials said more than 28,000 houses have been damaged so far but assessments are only in the initial stages. It is reported that the storm killed at least 113 people by fallen trees, flying debris and swollen rivers.

“All phone lines and electricity are down. Access is completely cut off, and everyone is running out of food and money. Everyone is very shaken up,” said Tim Callaghan, Team leader for the US Agency for International Development in Haiti.
